Peninsula has completed its first LNG bunkering operation at the Port of Sagunto, Spain, supplying the car carrier Thor Highway, operated by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line).
The LNG was delivered by Levante LNG, with Peninsula describing the operation as a step forward for its LNG offering in the Mediterranean.
"Achievements like this are an important part of expanding the marine energy solutions available to our customers, strengthening our LNG and bio-LNG capabilities while supporting the industry’s transition towards a lower-carbon future," the bunker firm stated on LinkedIn.
Peninsula has been operating the 12,500-cbm LNG bunkering vessel Levante LNG since October 2023, with the company supplying LNG as a marine fuel to multiple customers across the Strait of Gibraltar and Western Mediterranean, including K-Line, Royal Caribbean, Eastern Pacific and MSC.
Back in July, Levante LNG also performed Peninsula's maiden bio-LNG delivery at the Andalusian port of Cádiz, refuelling Royal Caribbean Group’s cruise ship Legend of the Seas via a ship-to-ship (STS) operation.
The Port of Sagunto, located on Spain's eastern coast near Valencia, handles LNG cargoes through its regasification terminal, providing infrastructure that can support bunkering activity.
