Hapag-Lloyd has completed a simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) bunkering of ISCC EU-certified biomethanol supplied by Goldwind to the Seaspan Amazon in Busan, South Korea.

The biomethanol was produced at Goldwind’s integrated facility in Hinggan League, China, and delivered through an international supply chain before being bunkered while other vessel and port activities continued in parallel, Hapag-Lloyd explained in a LinkedIn post.

The delivery builds on a long-term fuel supply agreement signed between the two companies in 2024, under which Goldwind is expected to supply 250,000 tonnes annually of a blend of biomethanol and e-methanol from the end of 2027. By securing an early biomethanol delivery, Hapag-Lloyd said both companies are gaining operational experience and advancing the logistics required for future large-scale supply ahead of that date.

The bunkering follows recent biomethanol operations involving the Seaspan Amazon and Seaspan Yangtze, which Hapag-Lloyd noted is informing preparations for additional vessels in its fleet capable of operating on methanol.
