Marine fuel testing and inspection specialist VPS has advertised a vacancy for a bunker surveyor to join its BQS team in Singapore, according to a job posting on LinkedIn.

Headquartered in Barendrecht, the Netherlands, VPS provides services via laboratories supported by an international network of commercial and technical advisory teams, with other locations in Singapore, Houston, Fujairah, Shanghai and the UK.

According to the job posting, the successful candidate will be required to attend vessels to carry out surveys relating to marine fuel, coordinate with customers on work schedules, carry out sampling and measurements, prepare survey reports, and perform bunker surveys under Singapore Standards SS 648 and SS 600. The role will report to the manager of BQS Singapore.

Candidates with experience as a bunker surveyor are said to hold “a clear advantage”, as are those holding a licence issued by Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA). VPS states that a marine or nautical degree — such as in maritime and offshore management or maritime transportation management — or a certificate of competency will be essential for the role, and fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Other requirements include recent experience in the maritime or transport sector, experience with quality inspections, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a good command of written and spoken English. Applicants are also advised that they should be prepared to work irregular hours given the nature of the job, with access to their own transport preferred.
