Two dual-fuel chemical and product tankers designed by FKAB for James Fisher were officially named at a ceremony at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng on 21 May.

Tiger Fisher and Narwhal Fisher are part of a four-vessel FKAB T68 series, with each vessel having a deadweight tonnage of 6,000 dwt and a gross tonnage below 5,000 GT. The vessels are capable of operating on LNG, liquefied biogas (LBG) and diesel.

Propulsion is provided by a Wärtsilä 25 four-stroke LNG/LBG dual-fuel engine, which can operate as an auxiliary engine during cargo discharging and other low-load cases in harbour mode using skip-firing mode.

According to FKAB, the hull form is designed for performance in harsh weather conditions and features the company’s patented F-bow, for lower energy consumption.

The design is said to include features focused on propeller and rudder performance, and optimal combinations of main engine and propeller regarding rpm and pitch across all speeds. Environmental protection and noise reduction were also considerations in the design.

The FKAB T68 vessels feature MarineLine 784-coated, fully coiled cargo tanks and 12 electric deepwell cargo pumps. They are equipped with a shaft generator with power take-home (PTH) and variable frequency drive (VFD) for load optimisation.

The vessels fulfil IMO Tier III requirements through selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. They are also fitted with an economiser and thermal oil boiler operating on LNG dual-fuel.

FKAB stated that the vessels are now expected to make their journey to their home waters for operation.
