Coast Guard investigates fuel spill

Absorbent boom is placed around partially-submerged vessel to prevent further discharge.

The U.S Coast Guard is investigating a report of an oil sheen near Nelson's Quality Shrimp on the Wilmington River, Georgia, Saturday afternoon.

Marine Safety Unit Savannah received a report of the sheen near the commercial shrimping boat Dragonard at approximately 9:55 a.m.

Personnel from Marine Safety Unit Savannah and the LSavannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Marine Patrol were dispatched to conduct an on-scene assessment of the waterways and surrounding shorelines.

A thorough search of the area found a light sheen near the vessel. Absorbent boom was placed around the vessel by the owner to prevent further discharge from the vessel. There have been no reports of impacted wildlife at this time.

Dragonard is partially submerged but is not blocking a navigable channel in its present location.
