Total Gas & Power Chartering Ltd (TGPCL) - a UK-based subsidiary of Total responsible for transporting LNG, petcoke and sulphur for the Total Group - has signed a contract with NYK Line to charter a newly built LNG carrier for seven years, with an optional extension period of one year.

The contract was signed by both parties on September 28. The LNG carrier will be equipped with a WinGD X-DF dual-fuel, slow-speed diesel engine capable of operating on either marine gas oil (MGO) or boil-off gas stored in the cargo tank.

The boil-off gas will be held in a Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) Mark III flex cargo containment system - a 174,000-cubic-metre-capacity, membrane-type cargo tank that has insulating materials to suppress the boil-off rate (i.e. the percentage of gas volume that vaporizes during navigation) in the cargo tank.

The new carrier is said to also offer "superior fuel-consumption efficiency" and an economical LNG transportation through the use of a reliquefaction system that can use the surplus boil-off gas effectively.

Vessel specifications:

Cargo tank capacity: circa 174,000 cubic metres
Length overall: around 293 meters
Breadth: about 45.8 metres
Main engine: X-DF diesel engine
Speed: 19.5 knots
Shipbuilder: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.
Delivery year: 2021
