GTT inks LNG agreement with CHI

Deal covers LNG-fuelled newbuilds, retrofits, small-scale carriers and FLNGVs.

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has signed an LNG agreement with Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (CHI) in a move that is designed to "better tackle the challenging market and its new orientations".

The accord, signed on January 18, covers LNG-fuelled newbuilds, retrofits, small-scale carriers and floating liquefaction vessels (FLNGVs).

Established in December 2016, CHI was formed from the merged Cosco Shipping, combining shipbuilding firms Cosco Shipyard and Cosco Shipbuilding Industry Company, previously under China Cosco Group, and China Shipping Industry Co, formerly part of China Shipping Group.

CHI has more than 40 subsidiaries and the shipbuilding capacity to repair and retrofit around 1,500 vessels per year.
