Bunker price volatility climbs for third month


December recorded the highest volatility level since August.



Bunker price volatility rose for the third month in a row in December, according to Bunker Index price data.

In a comparison of low-to-high differentials for the daily Bunker Index (BIX) global average, December recorded a differential of $39.81 per tonne, up from $24.18 per tonne in November. It is the highest volatility level since August.

The lowest daily global bunker average last month was $363.69 per tonne, recorded on December 29, whilst the highest price was $403.50 per tonne on December 1.
