The Bunker Index (BIX) global monthly average fell for the seventh consecutive month in December, according to Bunker Index price data.

The worldwide bunker average declined by $42.34, or 10.1 percent, to $377.03 per tonne last month, down from $419.37 per tonne in November. It is the lowest price since Bunker Index began publishing global monthly indices in April 2009 - beating the $382.38 recorded in the inaugural month. It is also only the second sub-$400 price to be recorded during this 81-month period (between April 2009 and December 2015).

In percentage terms, the 10.1 percent decrease is the second-biggest of 2015; in dollar terms, the $42.34 drop is the third most significant of last year.

In comparison with previous years, the December 2015 average is $183.12 lower than the $560.15 price recorded in December 2014, and $416.54 below the $793.57 figure seen in December 2013.
