Singapore sales fall in June; second-best H1 volumes

Port records its fourth-best June figure as month-on-month sales fall. H1 volumes were only higher in 2012.

Bunker sales in Singapore fell to their second-lowest level in the last nine months in June, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port decreased last month by 171,200 tonnes, or 4.6 percent, to 3,536,000 tonnes, down from 3,707,200 tonnes in May.

In comparison with previous years, last month's figure is better than in 2014 and 2013, but lower than the 3,646,900 tonnes recorded in June 2012, the 3,859,200-tonne figure seen in June 2011 and the 3,543,800 tonnes sold in June 2010.

Compared to last year, volumes were up by 162,200 tonnes, or 4.8 percent; it is the fifth year-on-year rise of 2015, with only April recording a year-on-year decline during the first half of 2015.

Accumulated bunker sales for the year so far are 21,562,700 tonnes, which represents an increase of 718,300 tonnes, or 3.4 percent, compared to the first six months of 2014 (20,844,400 tonnes).

The figure is also above the volumes sold during the corresponding period in 2013 (20,886,700 tonnes) and 2011 (21,161,500 tonnes), but below the 21,738,000 tonnes recorded during the first half of 2012.

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) - Singapore's best-selling bunker grade - fell by 183,500 tonnes, or 6.5 percent in June to 2,620,400 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, 380 cSt sales were up by 140,600 tonnes, or 5.7 percent.

500 cSt volumes rose from the previous month's figure of 704,900 tonnes to 725,800 tonnes. The result is 57,100 tonnes, or 8.5 percent higher than in June 2014. It is also the best 500 cSt June figure in the port's history.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011 with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
