Aegean to deploy new tanker in North Europe

Supplier takes delivery of 4,600 dwt double-hull tanker to service North European market.

Physical bunker supplier Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. (AMPNI) has announced that it has taken delivery of the Syros, a 4,600 dwt newly-built double-hull bunkering tanker from Fujian Southeast Shipyard in China. The Syros will be deployed to Antwerp servicing the Northern European market and is expected to commence operations in June 2008.

E. Nikolas Tavlarios, President, commented, "With the delivery of the Syros, Aegean has once again expanded its global logistics infrastructure. By successfully increasing our delivery capacity, we have enhanced our ability to meet the strong demand in our growing network for the physical supply of marine fuel and further grow sales volumes. We remain on track to take delivery of six additional bunkering tanker newbuildings in 2008 during a time when we continue to strengthen the operations in each of our three new service centers located in Northern Europe, the U.K. and West Africa."

With the delivery of the Syros, the company plans to redeploy the Vera, a 1985-built 3,728 dwt single-hull bunkering tanker, to West Africa from Northern Europe.
