Scandlines continuing with zero emission ferry project


Ferry operator denies reports that it is abandoning its zero emission ferry project.

German-Danish ferry operator Scandlines has issued a statement denying media claims that it is abandoning its zero emission ferry project.

The company emphasized that its work on zero emission ships is still in progress, adding that the realization of zero emission ferries would be dependent on having enough time to write off the cost of the project.

Scandlines said that it is true that with a fixed link to Rødby-Puttgarden it will be difficult to get the project on this route to move up economically, unless the opening of the fixed link across the Fehmarn Belt is postponed at least 10 years.

The ferry operator stressed that it has not abandoned work on the further development of zero emission ferries and will continue to have a vision of fossil ferry services in the future.
