Bunker sales in Singapore fell for the second time this year during the month of May, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port decreased last month by 118,900 tonnes, or 3.3 percent, to 3,529,000 tonnes, down from the 3,647,900 tonnes recorded in April.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, May volumes were down 456,700 tonnes, or 11.5 percent. This is the most significant year-on-year monthly decline since Bunker Index began compiling MPA monthly sales data in 2008.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 17,403,600 tonnes, which represents a fall of 687,500 tonnes, or 3.8 percent, on the 18,091,100 tonnes achieved during the first five months of 2012.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell by 80,500 tonnes, or 3.0 percent, in May to 2,633,200 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, sales were down 511,400 tonnes, or 16.3 percent.

Meanwhile, 500-cst volumes climbed 11,100 tonnes, or 1.8 percent, to 644,300 tonnes. The result was also 52,800 tonnes, or 8.9 percent, higher than the 591,500 tonnes sold in May 2012.
