New requirement for bunkering in Suez

Written approval required for owners' matters at least 24 hours prior to arrival in Suez.

Vessels calling at Suez for the supply of marine fuel and intending to drop anchor in area W, must obtain written approval at least 24 hours prior to their arrival in Suez, GAC reports.

According to the maritime services firm, written approval will need to be obtained from the Red Sea Port Authority and submitted to the Suez Canal Authority for owners' matters only (such as bunker supply, crew change, awaiting instructions etc.) to enable such services to be rendered.

The new requirement came into effect on 1 May, 2013.
