Second monthly sales decline in Singapore


Bunker sales fall for the second consecutive month at the world's leading bunker port.



Bunker sales in Singapore decreased for the second consecutive month to their lowest level since February, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port fell in August by 229,600 tonnes, or 6.5 percent, to 3,326,400 tonnes, down from 3,556,000 tonnes the previous month.

September's volume figure is the second lowest of the year so far and the smallest since February, when monthly sales of 3,092,700 tonnes were recorded. In comparison with the corresponding month last year the figure was down 242,000 tonnes, or 6.8 percent.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 32,285,600 tonnes, representing a rise of 97,500 tonnes, or 0.3 percent, on the 32,188,100 tonnes achieved during the first nine months of 2011.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - also fell to their second lowest level of the year and lowest since February, with sales of 2,570,100 tonnes. The figure was 186,600 tonnes, or 6.8 percent, down on the previous month.

Meanwhile, 500-cst volumes declined by 32,200 tonnes, or 5.7 percent, to 535,900 tonnes. The result was 67,800 tonnes, or 14.5 percent, higher than the 468,100 tonnes sold in September last year.
