Ships fitted with consumption measurement technology


DFDS vessels are equipped with fuel consumption measuring systems from Austrian manufacturer.

DFDS Seaways has fitted three of its vessels with fuel consumption measuring systems from Austrian firm KRAL AG.

The Dover Seaways, Delft Seaways and Dunkerque Seaways are Ro-Pax ships that transport both passengers and wheeled cargo. For each ship, the consumption of all four main motors, the power generation units and of the two burners are measured using KRAL technology.

Each fuel consumption measuring system has a KRAL BEM 500 electronic indication unit fitted locally. The information from each consumption measuring system is transferred to the bridge and displayed on the KRAL BEM 800. In total, KRAL supplied 27 fuel consumption measuring systems to DFDS Seaways.

The installation of the new fuel consumption systems is aimed at facilitating data comparison between ships and thus optimizing fleet consumption.

Nigel Cureton, Fleet Manager of the Dover Seaways, commented: "The analysis of the data allows us to optimize the fuel consumption of the ship as a whole or individually for each individual section of the system."
