Bunkers International launches bunker tanker

Vessel will supply LSFO, HSFO and MGO at a number of locations along the north Colombian coastline.

Bunkers International Corporation, along with its joint venture partner C.I. Vanoil has announced the availability of the bunker tanker BT Cartagena Sun.

The vessel is a double-hulled, 6000-metric tonne bunker tanker that will service ships at Coveñas - Colombia’s crude oil port, offshore Cartagena, offshore Santa Marta, adjacent coal terminal areas, and other coastal Colombian ports upon request. The tanker will supply high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO), low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO), and marine gas oil (MGO), which that are said to comply with ISO 2005 and 2010 standards.

The BT Cartagena Sun is a Colombia-flagged 2012 rebuilt double-hull bunker tanker. The vessel is a purpose-built tanker, equipped with a variable-pitch prop, bow thrusters, Yokohama fenders, and pump rates up to 500 metric tonnes per hour.

The tanker has three segregations: LSFO, HSFO, and MGO. According to Bunkers International, the LSFO supplied contains a maximum of 1.00% sulphur with viscosity of 250-300 cst, less than 200 ppm of vanadium and a CCAI of typically 820-830 ppm. The HSFO with 1.5% maximum sulphur and low metals will also be offered along with MGO. Bunkers International said it is taking enquiries today for late July deliveries.

“We are very excited to launch the Cartagena Sun. This vessel will enable our customers to obtain all the products they require at the locations they desire” said John Canal, President of Bunkers International Corp., “With proximity to the Panama Canal, the Cartagena Sun can offer a viable LSFO bunker option for vessels transiting to North American and European ECA zones. The Cartagena Sun enables us to deliver a reliable, competitive all-inclusive service that is time-efficient for our customers.”

Bunkers International has been expanding operations globally since 2000, creating new operations in Colombia, the UK, Singapore, Turkey, New York, California, Hong Kong, Brazil, Greece, Chile, and South Africa. The company has significantly increased its trading division, helping drive a tenfold increase in revenue in the past eight years.

"With strong capitalization, a global customer base of thousands of ship operators, and supply operations on both coasts of Colombia, Bunkers International is well positioned to serve the South American market and beyond," the company said.
