Bunkering 'impossible' in Hamburg


Supplier says icy conditions are making the majority of bunker deliveries extremely difficult to carry out.

Marine fuel supply firm Bominflot Bunkergesellschaft für Mineralöle mbH & Co. KG (Bominflot) has today said that the current weather conditions at the port of Hamburg are making the large majority of bunker deliveries extremely difficult to carry out.

Commenting on the situation in Hamburg, Bominflot said: "Due to the strong ice situation in the port of Hamburg, 95 percent of all bunker jobs are impossible. Small gasoil barges don't move anymore, the way to the tank farm where we load low sulphur fuel is fully covered with ice and a lot of fuel oil barges have no chance of moving as well."

Operators with vessels due to refuel in Hamburg over the next few days are advised to contact their respective bunker suppliers, traders and brokers to discuss their bunkering schedule.
