Agreement to evaluate LNG bunkering in Korea

Swedish cluster in agreement with energy giant to look at developing an LNG supply system in South Korea.

Swedish liquefied natural gas (LNG) cluster SSPA, FKAB, White Smoke and Swedish Marine Technology Forum have entered into a joint agreement with Korean energy giant Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) to evaluate the possibility of developing a Korean system for the delivery of LNG to gas-fuelled ships.

The project will be divided into seven tasks with the Swedish cluster assuming responsibility for five of them. Each of the five tasks will have a special focus such as national and international regulations, forecasts of demand and risk evaluation.

A report on the project's findings will be presented at a workshop due to be held in South Korea at the start of April 2011.

The contract between the Swedish marine cluster and KOGAS is a result of the Joint Study Agreement between Business Region Göteborg and KOGAS signed in July 2009. The main purpose of the agreement is to develop cooperation between Sweden and South Korea in the field of natural gas, biogas and bioDME in order to promote mutually beneficial business relationships in these areas.

Business Region Göteborg AB is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening and developing trade and industry in the Gothenburg region. It represents 13 member municipalities and its goal is to contribute to sustainable economic growth, a high level of employment and a diversified economy.
