Sales record for Singapore in May

Bunker sales reach new record in May at the world's leading bunker port.

Bunker sales in Singapore hit a new record during the month of May, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,470,400 tonnes in May, surpassing the previous record of 3,442,600 tonnes set in April 2010.

Sales volumes have now exceeded 3.4 million tonnes in two consecutive months for the first time and the accumulated figure for the year so far is 16,477,000 tonnes - 1,545,600 tonnes higher than in May 2009.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - reached a new all-time record of 2,634,000 tonnes, beating the previous record of 2,557,000 tonnes, set in March 2010.

Meanwhile, sales of 500-cst fell below the all-time record of 505,400 tonnes set last month to 474,600 tonnes. The figure is the second-highest ever recorded and 172,400 tonnes, or 57 percent, higher than the 302,200 tonnes achieved in May 2009.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
