Singapore sales surpass 3.4m tonnes

New monthly record for Singapore as 500-cst volumes skyrocket 27.8 percent in April.

Bunker sales in Singapore reached new record levels during the month of April, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,442,600 tonnes in April, surpassing the previous record of 3,329,100 tonnes set the previous month and the 3,227,200 tonnes recorded in May 2009.

Sales volumes have now exceeded 3 million tonnes in nine of the last ten months. It is also the first time that monthly marine fuel sales have surpassed the 3.4 million tonne mark.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell just below the port's all-time record of 2,557,000 tonnes, set in March, to 2,541,500 tonnes.

However, sales volumes of 500-cst skyrocketed 27.8 percent to 505,400 tonnes, surpassing the previous month's all-time record by 110,000 tonnes.

The percentage jump in 500-cst sales is the most significant monthly percentage rise for an individual fuel grade since Bunker Index began compiling data on Singapore in January 2008.

The latest figures show that 500-cst volumes added up to 14.7 percent of total bunker sales in April, compared with 11.5 percent the previous month.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
