SGS, VPS top Singapore bunker surveyor list

12.3 percent of Singapore's licensed bunker surveyors are employed at either SGS or VPS.

SGS Testing & Control Services Singapore Pte Ltd and Veritas Petroleum Services (Asia) Pte. Ltd. (VPS) are the companies with the most licensed bunker surveyors in Singapore, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

SGS and VPS both have 18 members of staff that have been issued with a bunker surveyor licence - more than any other firm in Singapore.

In total, 293 individual bunker surveyor licenses have been issued by the MPA. Other companies with 10 or more licensed surveyors are: Viswalab Singapore Pte. Ltd. (16), Libra Marine Services Pte. Ltd. (14), Odessea Inspection Services (S) Pte. Ltd. (12), Poseidon Marine Pte. Ltd. (12) and Lighthouse Marine & Inspection Services Pte. Ltd. (10).

An analysis of the data shows that 12.3 percent of all the licensed bunker surveyors in Singapore are employed at either SGS or VPS. The top seven companies in the list have a combined total of 100 licensed surveyors, or 34.1 percent of the 293 licenses. The top 10 companies employ 126, or 43 percent, of Singapore's licensed surveyors.

Earlier this month, Bunker Index reported that 51 companies had been granted a bunker survey licence to operate in the port of Singapore. Of the 51 companies that have been issued with a licence, 14 (indicated with an asterisk in the list below) have been given a three-month provisional licence.

Of the 14 companies with a provisional licence, Royal Marine Services Pte. Ltd has the most licensed surveyors - eight. A. Marine Audix Pte. Ltd. has six MPA-approved surveyors, whilst Oil & Gas Bunker Surveyor Services Pte Ltd and Orion Marine International Pte. Ltd. both have five. The other 10 firms have between one and three surveyors with licenses.

First announced in October 2014, the licensing scheme is designed to raise the standards of bunker surveying companies and allow the MPA to have a greater regulatory oversight over bunker surveying companies and bunker surveyors.

A full breakdown of bunker surveyor licenses by company has been provided below.
