Rotterdam 380 cSt up in 3 straight months for first time since Sep 2012

Europe's biggest bunker port records highest 380 cSt average in five months.

The 380 centistoke (cSt) average at Europe's leading bunker port rose to its highest level in five months in April, according to Bunker Index price data.

The Rotterdam 380 cSt average increased by $14, or 8.8 percent, to $173 per tonne, up from $159 per tonne in March.

The $14 jump is the third-biggest - but only the fourth - since May 2015. It is also the first time since September 2012 that the 380 cSt has risen in three consecutive months.

During the month of April, Rotterdam's best-selling fuel grade recorded a $68 low-to-high price differential with a range of $140 to $208 per tonne. The low of $140 was recorded on April 5, whilst the month's high was seen on April 29.

In comparison with the corresponding month in 2015, the April 2016 average is $143 lower. It is $406 below the $579-per-tonne price seen in March 2014.

The month ended with an assessment price of $206.50 per tonne, up $49.00, or 31.1 percent, on the $157.50 per tonne recorded on the last trading day of March.
