IBIA chairman has term of office extended by a year


Decision to extend Jens Maul Jørgensen's term of office was approved at the IBIA Convention in Hamburg last week.



The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has confirmed that Jens Maul Jørgensen [pictured] has had his one-year term of office as IBIA chairman extended by a further year. The decision was approved at the IBIA Convention in Hamburg last week.

In an emailed statement, IBIA chief executive Peter Hall said: "As a prominent shipowning representative, Jens has been instrumental on focusing IBIA's efforts on improving bunker quality around the world. He is an extremely energetic and dedicated chairman and I am delighted that he will continue to support our drive to raise standards across the industry."

Jørgensen became an IBIA board member in 2010. He was appointed vice-chairman in 2013 and began his first year as chairman in April 2014.

Jørgensen's career in shipping spans 24 years. He started in August 1990 as a trainee with shipbroking company Fisker & Bom. In 1992 he joined Avedøre Shipping A/S in Copenhagen, where he worked in chartering, agency and operational areas. In 1996 Jørgensen worked for Maritime Agency Bunkers A/S (MARAG A/S), part of O.W. Group. He then became bunker manager for the Armada Group in Switzerland in 2003. Four years later he was appointed Bunker Department Director for German dry bulk owner and operator, Oldendorff Carriers.

Jørgensen today leads a team of purchasers and inspectors worldwide. He is an acknowledged speaker and has presented at many of the main bunker conferences around the world.

1992-1996: Avedøre Shipping A/S, Copenhagen. Worked in operations, chartering and agency.

1996-2003: Employee at Maritime Agency Bunkers A/S (MARAG A/S), part of O.W. Group.

2003-2007: Bunker Manager for the Armada Group, Switzerland

2007-Present: Bunker Department Director at Oldendorff Carriers, Germany.
