Fujairah storage terminal gets ISO certification

Gulf Petrochem's oil terminal is awarded ISO certification for achieving global standards in its quality management, safety management, occupational health and environmental management policies.

Gulf Petrochem has received an ISO accreditation endorsement from TUV Nord for its Fujairah terminal achieving global standards in its quality management, safety management, occupational health, and environmental management policies.

TUV Nord was engaged to audit Gulf Petrochem's compliance in March 2014 and has subsequently awarded the Fujairah oil facility with Quality Management System ISO 9001:2008, Environment Management System ISO 14001:2004 and Occupational Health and Safety Management System BS OHSAS 18001:2007.

The German classification agency, a specialist global entity in auditing compliance with ISO specifications, is said to have carried out an "extensive assessment" of all certifications including the environmental management mechanism through which the sustainable performance of the terminal is measured.

Commenting on the ISO certification, Gulf Petrochem said it would help the firm expand the capabilities of its Fujairah terminal to handle crude oil and increase its storage capacity to over one million cubic metres, in line with industry standards.

"The review, requested by Gulf Petrochem, is testament for its unwavering commitment to international standards and strict compliance with environmental management systems, quality management systems and health and safety measures.

"The registered approval is reassurance for customers that adhere to corporate governance guidelines and require that Gulf Petrochem’s procedures continue to deliver a consistently high-grade product," Gulf Petrochem said.

Thangapandian Srinivasalu, Executive Director and Board Member at Gulf Petrochem, said the ISO certification would help build a foundation for Gulf Petrochem to move into Phase II of its expansion plans. "The certification ensures we implement our vision for additional tank capacity and plans for a manifold pumping station to connect all terminals in Fujairah, under the protocol that ISO certification demands," he remarked.

Sudhir Goyel, Managing Director and co-founder of Gulf Petrochem said: "This achievement is conclusive evidence that the company is enhancing its facilities in Fujairah under world-class requirements, which will contribute to maintaining a sustainable environment.

"Gulf Petrochem will continue to prioritise health and occupational safety, maximize the efficiency of its performance, and showcase its ability in downstream and midstream through adopting effective controls to cope with risk, which conform to the policy and procedures that ISO certification demands."

The ISO Certification was presented to Mr. Thangapandian by Mr. Shibu Davies, General Manager TUV Nord Middle East at a ceremony at Gulf Petrochem Group’s Fujairah terminal.
