Algeciras and CLH in eco-agreement

Agreement complements CLH's existing environmental management procedures at its marine fuel storage terminal in Algeciras.

The Chairman of the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay, Manuel Morón Ledro, and the Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos (CLH) General Director of Operations, Juan Rafael Bonilla Abascal, have signed a good environmental practices agreement based on the law governing state ports and the merchant navy, which was approved in 2011.

The agreement complements the Environmental Management System implemented by CLH at its storage facility in Algeciras, which holds UNE-EN ISO 14001 certification.

According to the terms of the agreement, CLH undertakes to carry out regular checks, that will be accredited by an independent specialist agency, to certify that the strict controls established by law are complied with, in addition to implementing environmental improvement programmes.

The port authority will, for its part, apply the appropriate rebates on port dues in accordance with the above-mentioned law.

The Algeciras storage facility is CLH's most important plant for the storage and movement of marine diesel and intermediate fuel oils (IFOs) used as marine fuel.

The facility has 20 tanks with a storage capacity of 197,000 cubic metres, and a seaport terminal that has a ship berth fitted with articulated arms that can be used in various positions for loading/unloading barges, in addition to a tank truck loading area.

CLH is a leading company in the Spanish market for the transportation and storage of oil products, with a pipeline network over 4,000 kilometres long and 39 storage facilities that have a total capacity of 7.9 million cubic metres. It also operates 28 airport facilities.

The CLH Group has nine storage facilities in Andalucia, located in Cordoba, Seville, Huelva, Rota, Algeciras, San Roque, Malaga, Motril and Arahal, and a pipeline network 870 kilometres long.

Through its subsidiary, CLH Aviación, the CLH Group is present in Andalucia at Cordoba, Seville, Jerez, Almería and Malaga airports.
