NYK presents vision for the future

Shipping line presents eco-ship concepts in Tokyo.

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) has presented its vision for the future at one of the largest environmental exhibitions in Tokyo, Japan.

The company exhibited under the theme "Achieving environmental friendly monohakobi (transport)." A total of 181,500 visitors attended the exhibition.

The display presentation at the booth included vessels equipped with new technologies such as the Auriga Leader, NYK's environmental ship equipped with solar panels and rechargeable batteries; and a module carrier equipped with an air-lubrication system that reduces the frictional resistance between a vessel's bottom and the seawater by means of bubble power.

Moreover, as a company that aims to operate a zero-emission ship by 2050, NYK displayed the NYK Super Eco Ship 2030, a conceptual, future containership for 2030, marking the halfway point between the launch of the concept and 2050.

The presentation was carried out in a way to help familiarize visitors with the ocean and the environment, whilst also explaining the structure of each vessel and international standards for the maritime industry.

In addition, a mini-seminar lasting 15 minutes was held every day at the NYK booth during the event, in which NYK's environmental activities were outlined, including its cutting-edge environmental technologies and its approach to energy-saving ship operations.

"NYK group will continue to strive to develop measures to protect the environment through developing eco-friendly vessels and promoting energy-saving ship operations," NYK said in a statement.
