Alliance to cut Great Lakes emissions


Partnership to install CSNOx technology within the Canada Steamship Lines fleet.



Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), has signed a letter of intent with Ecospec Marine Technology to develop and install CSNOx technology within the CSL fleet.

The partnership announcement was made by CSL President, Gerry Carter, at the “Green Tech for Shipping 2010” conference held in Montreal, Canada.

CSL and Ecospec plan on installing the award winning CSNOx system on one of CSL’s vessels in the Great Lakes later this year in order to validate and obtain certification of the performance and efficiency of the system in a fresh water environment. The CSL installation will be the world’s first CSNOx freshwater environment project.

CSL and Ecospec said they were optimistic that the system could be the environmental emission reduction breakthrough that the marine industry has been searching for, and become the new standard for emission reductions.

Ecospec CSNOx is the first commercially viable solution in the world capable of significantly reducing carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen oxide (NOx), all in a single system and by a single process, and without using harmful chemicals.

In addition, the CSNOx system not only effectively removes emissions that contribute to climate change but does so without producing secondary pollutants or generating further CO2 emissions.

This is said to set the system apart from existing conventional scrubbers that increase CO2 emissions due to chemical reactions in the scrubbing process.
