Deadline date approaches for 2010 eco award


Deadline for annual marine environmental award entries is Friday, April 16th.



The Port of Seattle and Seattle Propeller Club will be presenting the 3rd Annual Marine Environmental Business of the Year Award at the Maritime Festival Luncheon on May 11.

This award recognizes companies with operations in Seattle that exemplify innovative and effective environmental initiatives supporting the maritime industry efforts towards a sustainable, green port.

The deadline for entries is Friday, April 16.

Eligibility

Corporations eligible to apply will have maritime-related operations in Seattle.

Selection Committee

A committee comprised of industry, environmental, regulatory and media representatives will review applications and select the award recipient.

Last year, the 2009 Award Selection Committee comprised of the following people:

Pamela Emerson, Environmental Protection Agency
Alice Kelly, Department of Ecology
Dave Kircher, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency
Capt. Delmar Mackenzie, Puget Sound Pilots
Chris Philips, Pacific Maritime Magazine
Kathy Fletcher, People for Puget Sound

Selection Criteria

Applications will be considered based on:

1) Successful efforts to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices into maritime/ industrial operations;

2) Innovation, leadership and/or commitment towards environmental stewardship, especially air and water pollution prevention; and,

3) The company will need to be in compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations and requirements. Any compliance issues must have been resolved to the satisfaction of the Department of Ecology.

Last year the award nominees included barge operators/fuel transportation companies Harley Marine Services, Foss Maritime Company and Crowley Maritime Corporation. Holland America Line and Todd Pacific Shipyards were also nominated..
