ScanOcean and Neste are strengthening their existing partnership with the launch of a new lower-emission DMA gasoil which, as from this week, is being made available on the Swedish east coast.

The new gasoil is being produced at Neste's refinery in Porvoo, Finland, where renewable raw materials are added together with fossil raw materials in the conventional refining process.

Named Neste Marine 0.1 Co-processed, it will be available at the Södertälje ex-pipe facility together with DMA 0.1 and DMB 0.1, serving vessels in transit into Lake Mälaren.

The product is said to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil DMA gasoil over its life cycle (using EU Renewable Energy Directive II (EU) 2018/2001 as a guide to calculate life cycle emissions and emission reduction).

The sustainability characteristics of the marine fuel co-processed with renewable raw materials are certified with International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS and as of 2025 with ISCC EU) with a mass balance approach — designed to provide transparency for the flow of materials through the value chain.

"We already have several interested clients, and we look forward to start delivering this product. This is one of many key steps in ScanOcean's journey to build a portfolio of sustainable products and services. As we soon enter a new regulatory landscape in European shipping, reducing emissions at low cost will be key and we aim to provide the best solutions for this, and the DMA co-processed with renewable raw materials is an extremely attractive fuel in this respect," commented Jonatan Karlström, Managing Director at ScanOcean.

Sveta Ukkonen, Head of Marine Fuels at Neste, remarked: "We are very pleased to continue our long-term partnership with ScanOcean, and introducing the DMA co-processed with renewable raw materials to the Swedish market is a part of our marine fuel strategy. We see good growth potential for the Swedish market, and we are very pleased to have ScanOcean as our local partner."
