As Bunker Index reported yesterday, Rotterdam posted its lowest Q2 and H1 marine fuel and lubricant sales of the 2010s during the three- and six-month periods ending on June 30, 2017.

Today, using only data since the first quarter of 2010, we provide an accompanying graph to show how the port's quarterly rolling 12-month bunker and lube sales figure is also at its lowest level of the decade so far.

In the 12-month period between July 2016 and June 2017, Europe's top port sold 9,871,892 cubic metres (cbm) of marine fuel and lubricants, falling from the previous rolling 12-month sales figure of 9,925,720 cbm (covering the period April 2016 to March 2017).

It is the seventh quarter in a row that 12-month sales have fallen since reaching 10,728,476 cbm in Q3 2015, and only the second time this decade that volume sold has been below 10 million cbm.

The highest sales level reached so far in the 2010s was 12,223,887 cbm, in Q4 2011. After reaching their peak, sales dropped during eight successive quarters to 10,424,521 cbm in Q4 2013; rolling 12-month volume remained within a range of approximately 300,000 cbm between Q4 2013 and Q3 2015, and then declined over seven consecutive quarters to its current figure of 9,871,892 cbm.
