Rotterdam bunker sales drop 4.6% in 2016, lube sales rise


Marine fuel sales fell by almost half a million cubic metres in 2016.



Annual sales of marine fuels declined by almost half a million cubic metres (cbm) at the port of Rotterdam in 2016.

Sales of fuel oil, marine gas oil (MGO) and marine diesel oil (MDO) amounted to 10,049,558 cbm last year. The figure represents a decrease of 490,053 cbm, or 4.6 percent, on the 10,539,611 cbm sold in 2015.

All three categories of marine fuel (fuel oil, MGO and MDO) recorded a decline in sales last year. Fuel oil sales dropped 254,866 cbm, or 2.9 percent, to 8,483,644 cbm; MGO volumes were 207,174 cbm, or 12.7 percent lower at 1,426,879 cbm; and MDO deliveries declined by 28,013 cbm, or 16.8 percent, to 139,035 cbm.

Sales of both marine fuels and lubricants in Rotterdam during the course of 2016 fell by 488,584 cbm, or 4.6 percent, to 10,145,884 cbm, down from 10,634,468 cbm in 2015.

Marine lubricants recorded a year-on-year increase in 2016 with sales of 96,326 cbm - a rise of 1,469 cbm, or 1.5 percent, on the previous year's result of 94,857 cbm. It is the highest annual sales figure since 2012, when 100,429 cbm were sold.
