Total inks deal to supply new Brittany Ferries vessel with LNG


Vessel is due to operate on the Portsmouth to Caen cross-Channel route in 2019.

Total S.A. (Total) has inked an agreement with Brittany Ferries for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the French ferry operator's newbuild vessel, which is scheduled to be launched in 2019, Tradewinds reports.

Last month, Brittany Ferries announced that it had signed a letter of intent with Flensburger Schiffbau shipyard in Germany to build the new LNG-powered ship.

The vessel is slated to operate on the Portsmouth to Caen cross-Channel route, which offers three daily return sailings. It will operate in tandem with the cruise ferry Mont St Michel, which was launched in 2002.

The supply agreement between Total and Brittany Ferries was confirmed by Olivier Jouny, Total Marine Fuels' managing director, at the LNG Bunkering Summit in Amsterdam, who remarked that deliveries would likely be carried out by truck.

Total has also rebranded its bunker fuel business as Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions, the company confirmed last month.
