Court hearing for Gulf Petrochem in bunker claim against All Leisure

Bunker firm is seeking $162,800 over unpaid bunker bills.

A court hearing for Gulf Petrochem's bunker claim against the owner of the cruise ship Voyager, UK cruise operator All Leisure Group (ALG), took place in Singapore on Wednesday 11th January. Judge Tan Lee Meng presided over court proceedings.

Claim and arrest

In its claim against ALG, UAE-headquartered Gulf Petrochem is seeking $162,800 over unpaid bunker bills.

On 2nd January, ALG cancelled the Voyager's cruise from Port Klang and the Minerva's sailing from Marseille. The company ceased trading on 4th January.

According to ship-tracking data, the Voyager left Port Klang on 4th January and arrived in Singapore two days later. Gulf Petrochem issued a warrant for the detention of the ship on 6th January and the vessel was arrested the following day.

Referring to court documents, TradeWinds reports that Greek bunker firm Shipoil Ltd has filed a caveat at the court, while Sembcorp Marine Ltd, the shipyard where the 1990-built ship has been receiving engine repairs, is said to have filed for leave to intervene in the case.

Gulf Petrochem is being represented in court by lawyers Baldev Pinder and Zhang Weijie from Joseph Tan Jude Benny LLP.

All Leisure Holidays

Before ceasing trading, All Leisure Holidays Ltd (ALH) had been providing voyages on two cruise ships, the Minerva and the Voyager, under the brand names Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery.

ALH sold off its Hebridean Island Cruises business just days before going into administration. The MV Hebridean Princess is the brand's flagship vessel.

In a statement last week, ALH said: "Regrettably, and due to the adverse financial position of ALH, the business has ceased to trade [sic] resulting in the majority of employees being made redundant and the cancellation of all future voyages."

Grant Thornton UK LLP was appointed as joint administrator of ALH on 4th January.
