Fuel-saving antifouling series to be showcased at SMM

Japan's Choggoku Marine Paints says it will be promoting its Seaflo Neo Z series in Hamburg next month.

Japan-headquartered Choggoku Marine Paints Ltd (CMP) says it will be showcasing its 'Seaflo Neo Z' ultra-low-friction antifouling series at the upcoming SMM maritime trade fair in Hamburg in September.

The company's fuel-saving range of products comprises 'Seaflo Neo CF Premium', 'Seaflo Neo-S Premium' and 'Seaflo Neo CF Z'.

Seaflo Neo CF Premium is based on zinc polymer technology and is said to have a well-developed portfolio of applications, including various types of deep sea vessels.

Seaflo Neo-S Premium is based on silyl polymer technology and is said to have demonstrated its capacity to leave ships 'free from barnacles' during newbuild outfittings at South Korean shipyards in 2015.

A new antifouling patented by CMP includes a biocidal agent called Selektope, which has been developed by I-Tech AB. According to CMP, the product "is proving to be spectacularly effective in prevention of barnacle attachment and is confirming itself to be capable of delivering unsurpassed antifouling performance, even when a ship has a long layup at anchorage or a long static period during trading, i.e. for a few months."

"Hence the new antifouling is ideal to meet today's demands and challenges from a market suffering from frequent off-hire time [for ships] or very low activity," the company added.

Seaflo Neo CF Z includes a new biocide technology in the product Econea, developed by Janssen PMP. Econea is a non-metal antifouling agent which works against hard-shelled and soft-bodied invertebrate animal fouling organisms including barnacles, hydroids, mussels, oysters and tube worms.

According to Janssen PMP, "its excellent stability, low water solubility and low leach rates ensure that antifouling paints based on Econea can be specified for multi-year dry-docking intervals comparable to those achieved with copper-based products".

CMP says its new Seaflo Neo CF Z biocide has been fully evaluated in terms of performance outturns on various types of ships and is said to reduce slime "drastically". CMP reports that it has already started to supply the product to several Japanese companies.

The SMM trade fair is due to take place between 6th and 9th September at Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, Messeplatz 1, 20357 Hamburg, Germany.
