Singapore sells over 12m tonnes in 3 months for first time

World's leading bunker port sets new record for sales in a three-month period.

The port of Singapore recorded its best-ever accumulated sales figure in a 3-month period between November and January, with a total of 12,199,700 tonnes sold, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Monthly bunker sales rose to over 4 million tonnes for only the third time in the port's history last month. The city-state also recorded back-to-back monthly volumes of over 4 million tonnes for the very first time, and sales of over 12 million tonnes in a three-month period for the first time.

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port increased last month by 113,300 tonnes, or 2.8 percent, to 4,164,500 tonnes, compared with 4,051,200 tonnes in December.

In comparison with previous years, last month's figure is the highest ever recorded for the month of January. Compared to January 2015, volumes were up by 484,400 tonnes, or 13.2 percent. It is the ninth year-on-year monthly rise in a row, and the twelfth in the last thirteen months.

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) - Singapore's best-selling bunker grade - rose for the third consecutive month to 3,204,300 tonnes - an increase of 104,200 tonnes, or 3.4 percent.

It is the second-highest 380 cSt figure ever recorded, beaten only by the 3,295,600-tonne result seen in August 2015. It is also the best ever January figure.

500 cSt volumes declined by 36,100 tonnes, or 4.8 percent, to 723,700 tonnes. However, it is also the best January figure in Singapore's history.

Below are tables of monthly bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade since 2011 with accumulated annual totals in the bottom row.
