NuStar gets lease approval for Corpus Christi loading dock

With additional dock, NuStar Energy would have access to four loading docks in Corpus Christi.

The Port of Corpus Christi has approved a lease for NuStar Energy L.P., which would give NuStar the space to develop another private marine loading dock at its North Beach Terminal in Corpus Christi, Texas.

NuStar is developing plans for the new dock and hopes it will be completed in the second quarter of 2017. It will be designed to load Suezmax-class vessels (which carry approximately one million barrels) at rates up to 30,000 barrels per hour and the ability to expand to 50,000 barrels per hour.

Some of the features expected as part of the project include a new pile-supported dock, a state-of-the-art metering system, vapour control system, and a dock structure with three loading arms.

With this new dock, NuStar would have access to four loading docks in Corpus Christi, including two private docks, and would be able to load crude oil onto ships simultaneously on all four docks at a maximum rate of 90,000 barrels per hour.

"The addition of this new dock further expands our premiere position in the highly desirable Corpus Christi ship channel and is an important part of our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with more options to move barrels of Eagle Ford crude oil," said NuStar President and CEO Brad Barron.
