Hin Leong seeks $1.3 million from OW Bunker Far East

Oil trader prepares lawsuit against OW Bunker subsidiary.

Singapore-based oil trader and shipper, Hin Leong Trading (Pte.) Ltd., is preparing a lawsuit against a subsidiary of OW Bunker, Reuters reports.

The 51-year-old integrated downstream energy business is said to be preparing a writ of summons - a document issued by a court that orders a person or company to answer a legal complaint within a specified time period.

According to the court documents, the company is seeking S$1.67 million ($1.3 million) from O.W. Bunker Far East (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. over the sale of goods.

OW Bunker filed for bankruptcy and was subsequently issued with a bankruptcy order on Friday, November 7.

Hin Leong has two companies listed amongst the 63 bunker suppliers accredited by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Last year, its subsidiary Ocean Bunkering Services Pte. Ltd. was ranked 31st in a list of 68 suppliers by volume sold. Hin Leong Marine International (Pte.) Ltd. was 57th in the list.

Hin Leong has a fleet of MPA-licensed bunker barges ranging from 400 to 5,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt).

The company's Tuas Terminal has 30 storage tanks with a total capacity of approximately 100,000 cubic metres. It also includes a 200-metre berth with 8-metre draft that can accommodate up to three bunker barges at a time.
