Bunker sales fall 6.8 percent in Singapore


Accumulated sales for the year so far are 2.9 percent lower than in 2012.



Bunker sales in Singapore fell from their highest level in six months in August, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port decreased last month by 252,700 tonnes, or 6.8 percent, to 3,488,100 tonnes, down from the 3,740,800 tonnes recorded in July.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, August volumes were down 67,900 tonnes, or 1.9 percent. It is the sixth time in eight months that year-on-year monthly volumes have fallen.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 28,115,600 tonnes, which represents a decline of 833,600 tonnes, or 2.9 percent, on the 28,949,200 tonnes achieved during the first eight months of 2012.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - declined by 202,100 tonnes, or 7.3 percent, in August to 2,570,900 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, sales were down 185,800 tonnes, or 6.7 percent.

Meanwhile, 500-cst volumes fell by 21,600 tonnes, or 3.0 percent, to 693,000 tonnes compared to the previous month. The result is the second highest in the port's history after July's record of 714,600 tonnes.
