Crowley acquires Alaskan marine fuel supplier

Newly-acquired firm, Anderes Oil, supplies marine fuel in Southeast Alaska.

CPD Alaska LLC, the petroleum transportation, distribution and sales unit of Crowley Maritime Corporation in Alaska, has completed its acquisition of Anderes Oil Inc., a fuel company located in Ketchikan, Alaska, on July 1. The Anderes family, after 50 years of serving Ketchikan, is said to be leaving the oil business to pursue other interests.

Commenting on the news, Rocky Smith, senior vice president and general manager, said: "Congratulations to the entire team on reaching this milestone. This is our first venture in the Southeast Alaska market and we are very excited to be expanding into this region. I am confident that we will be successful in integrating this business into the Crowley family while continuing the tradition of great service to the community of Ketchikan."

While ownership will be changing, little else will. According to Crowley, the company will continue to provide products and services under the Anderes name with its 20 employees, who will be taken on as new members of the Crowley team.

"Anderes and Crowley have similar cultures and values emphasizing safety, environmental protection and customer service," said Bob Cox, Crowley vice president. "Our goal is a seamless transition and supporting the fine employees of Anderes Oil going forward."

Anderes Oil's business complex includes a bulk shoreside facility for storing over a million gallons of petroleum products near downtown Ketchikan. The company has a marina with a fixed 110-foot-long float outfitted to supply a variety of marine fuels to Southeast Alaska's mariners.

Twenty fuel stations, capable of pumping up to 200 gallons a minute, are designed to enable Anderes Oil to serve different sized boats quickly and efficiently.

Crowley is a transportation and logistics company providing services in domestic and international markets through six operating lines of business: Puerto Rico/Caribbean liner services; Latin America liner services; logistics; marine contract solutions; deep sea petroleum transportation; and petroleum transportation, distribution and sales in Alaska. Crowley currently operates 22 fuel terminals in western Alaska and the rail belt.

"The opportunity to acquire Anderes Oil and expand into southeast Alaska is a welcome development for Crowley’s petroleum distribution business," the company said.
