The SSI is a coalition of shipping leaders from around the world that is working to achieve a vision of the shipping industry that is both profitable and sustainable by 2040.

The SSI is facilitated by Forum for the Future, the global sustainability non-profit, in conjunction with NGO World Wildlife Fund. 19 global companies are already taking part in the SSI, representing ship owners and charterers, shipbuilders, engineers and service providers, banking, insurance, and classification societies, with a combined market value of half a trillion dollars.

The ultimate goal of the initiative is to show that collaborative action is possible, to mobilize support across the industry, and to demonstrate that shipping can contribute to – and thrive in – a sustainable future.
