Singapore H1 bunker sales surpass 25m tonnes for first time

Asian port sold 25.35m tonnes - beating last year's result by 1.7 percent.

For the first time in its history, the port of Singapore recorded bunker sales of more than 25 million tonnes during the first half of the year (H1), volume data for 2018 shows.

In H1, Singapore sold 25.35m tonnes, which was a year-on-year (YoY) improvement of 428,200 tonnes, or 1.7 percent, on the 24.92m tonnes sold in H1 2017.

In an analysis of the years 2008 to 2018, H1 volume rose by 7.99m tonnes, or 46.0 percent, from 17.36m tonnes to 25.35m tonnes.

During this period, H1 sales grew every year between 2008 and 2012, before dipping in both 2013 and 2014, and then climbing again in subsequent years to its 2018 level.

The years that saw the largest growth were 2016 and 2010. In 2016, the YoY jump was 2.82m tonnes, or 13.1 percent; whilst in 2010, the increase was 2.13m tonnes, or 11.9 percent.
