BMS United Bunkers has confirmed the launch of a new physical supply service in the Turkish Straits following an exclusive agreement with the Port of Canakkale.

As a result, BMS is now able to provide bunker deliveries in the following Dardanelles locations: Aliaga, Akcansa, Bandirma, Bozcaada Anchorage, Canakkale, Dikili, Gulluk, Icdas, Izmir, Karabiga, Nemrut Bay and Sevketiye.

The company is offering fuel oil and 0.1% low-sulphur marine gas oil (MGO), with delivery by barge or truck.

Ship-to-ship deliveries are to be performed using two supply tankers that are 1,400 and 3,500 deadweight tonnes (dwt), respectively.

Product is being sourced from a land storage facility at Canakkale with a storage capacity of 8,000 metric tonnes.

BMS is also providing other services to clients, including deslopping, demucking, tank cleaning and gas measuring.

"Supplying by barge or trucks, at multiple locations, we answer our clients' needs for a one-stop solution, ensuring timely, flexible and high-quality refuelling in the area, without any deviation," BMS said.

Dardanelles vs Bosporus

BMS was also keen to stress that there are certain key benefits to refuelling in the Dardanelles compared to the Bosporus Strait.

The company said: "Bunkering at the Dardanelles Strait, gives vessels the significant advantage of passing the Bosporus Strait fast and efficiently by lifting bunkers prior to their entry into the Strait, thus taking advantage of the two-way traffic of the Dardanelles instead of the one-way traffic of the Bosporus Strait."

Plan to extend supply coverage, develop staff

Discussing the company's strategy for the future, Lars Nielsen, Executive Group Director, explained that BMS would be concentrating on extending its supply coverage and improving the quality of its team.

"To carry on our steady and controlled growth, we intend to add significantly more focus on two critical areas: talent development and geographical expansion. It goes without saying that success in the latter depends on success in the former," Nielsen said.
