The port of Singapore recorded its lowest sales figure in a year last month, but the best February volumes in its history, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total month-on-month sales at the world's leading bunker port plummeted 654,500 tonnes, or 15.7 percent, to 3,510,000 tonnes last month, compared with 4,164,500 tonnes in January.

In comparison with previous years, last month's figure is the highest ever recorded for the month of February. Volumes were up by 114,000 tonnes, or 3.4 percent compared to February 2015. It is the tenth year-on-year monthly rise in a row, and the thirteenth in the last fourteen months.

Accumulated bunker sales for the year so far are 7,674,500 tonnes, which represents an increase of 598,400 tonnes, or 8.5 percent, on the first two months of 2015 (7,076,100 tonnes). The figure is also above the volumes sold during the corresponding period in 2014 (6,835,200 tonnes), 2013 (6,864,000 tonnes), and 2012 (6,761,200 tonnes). In fact, it is the highest figure ever recorded for the first two months of the year.

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) - Singapore's best-selling bunker grade - fell to their lowest level since February 2015 to 2,635,100 tonnes, representing a month-on-month decrease of 654,500 tonnes, or 15.7 percent. However, the figure was also the highest February sales figure in the port's history, surpassing the 2,544,200 tonnes sold in February 2011. It is also the tenth successive year-on-year increase in monthly 380 cSt sales.

Month-on-month 500 cSt volumes declined by 59,000 tonnes, or 8.2 percent, to 664,700 tonnes. Compared to last year, the figure was lower by 29,700 tonnes, or 4.3 percent.

Below are tables of monthly bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade since 2015 with accumulated annual totals in the bottom row.
