Sonan Energy Panama has recruited Cornelius Larsen as bunker trader, with the hire intended to support its continued expansion in the Americas. He will be based at the firm's offices at World Trade Center Panama.

The appointment was announced on 1 July by Hernan Ortiz, managing director of Sonan Energy Panama, who noted on LinkedIn that Larsen brings commercial expertise and long-standing relationships, with particular experience in Europe and the Americas.

Prior to joining Sonan Energy Panama, Larsen served as a bunker trader at Monjasa for almost four years, during which time he worked at the firm's offices in Copenhagen and Houston.

Larsen holds a Danish Shipping Education qualification and is fluent in Danish, English and Norwegian. He is also said to be already making progress with Spanish following his move to Central America.

Sonan Energy Panama was launched in October 2025 as the first Central America office of Sonan Bunkers Group. Founded in 2014, Sonan Bunkers Group also operates offices in London, Athens, Rotterdam, Oslo, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Dubai, and Denmark, providing marine fuels trading and brokering services to shipping clients.
