Green e-fuel export corridor between Brazil and Belgium advances to feasibility stage


A consortium has been formed to develop a green e-fuel corridor linking Porto do Açu to Antwerp-Bruges.

A consortium has been formed to advance a green e-fuel export corridor connecting Porto do Açu in Brazil to the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium.

The development follows the publication of a pre-feasibility study for the corridor in November last year. The newly formed consortium is now set to move beyond pre-feasibility to conduct a full feasibility analysis, with the completed study expected to be published by the end of 2026.

New members joining the corridor consortium include HIF Global, Fuella and NYK Line, alongside the port teams at both ends of the corridor. Höegh Autoliners and Wallenius Wilhelmsen have joined the dedicated task force, whilst Global Maritime Forum and the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) will continue to facilitate delivery of the corridor.

According to the Global Maritime Forum, the feasibility analysis will examine port infrastructure, vessel requirements and business models, with the aim of producing an implementation roadmap for the export of e-fuels — encompassing both e-methanol and e-ammonia — on vessels that would also use these fuels for their own propulsion.

The group is due to meet regularly before the feasibility analysis is published.

The Global Maritime Forum highlighted the project as a way to advance Brazil’s e-fuel production and bunkering opportunity while supporting demand for e-fuels in Europe.
