Changhong International has commenced construction on the fourth 19,000-teu LNG dual-fuel container ship for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) at its Daishan Base facility in Zhoushan.

The vessel, designated CHB2050, began construction at 10:18am on 18 May at the Changhong processing workshop, according to the shipbuilder.

The ceremony was attended by Ji-hun Jung, project manager of MSC’s on-site supervision team, team members, representatives from classification society DNV, Geng Hongwei, general manager of Daishan Shipbuilding, and other officials.

The ship series has a total length of approximately 366.0 metres, with a length between perpendiculars (LBP) of 360.7 metres, a beam of 58.8 metres, a depth of 30.2 metres, and a design draft of 17.0 metres. The vessels can carry 19,000 standard containers and are classed by DNV.

According to Changhong International, the vessel is the largest LNG dual-fuel container ship currently under construction in Zhejiang Province. As previously reported, Changhong International recently laid the keel for another 19,000-teu LNG dual-fuel container ship last week.
