Hyke Electric Ferries has partnered with Pascal Technologies to supply the powertrain for its F-15 Shuttle, an all-electric passenger vessel ordered by Cityboat for zero-emission transport operations in Norway.
Under the partnership, Hyke will deliver the vessel with a hull built by Herde Kompositt, while Pascal Technologies will provide the electric powertrain platform. The collaboration aims to enhance efficiency across the duty cycle, reduce drivetrain weight, and provide operators with real-time operational insight through an integrated software architecture.
Carl Rehn, CEO of Pascal Technologies, stated: “Hyke has built an extraordinary vessel. Our job is to make it a little better where it counts most: on the water, every single day. Every kilo and every kilowatt-hour matters; the powertrain platform decides how far, and how economically, the boat actually runs.”
Halvor Vislie, CEO of Hyke, commented: “We’ve spent years building a vessel that doesn’t compromise on energy use or passenger experience. Pairing the F-15 Shuttle with Pascal’s powertrain platform is a natural next step. They share our view that this segment needs purpose-built technology, not adapted leftovers from larger vessels.”
According to Pascal Technologies, the powertrain platform is built around a modular, standardised architecture delivered as a kit of interchangeable modules. Cabling arrives prefabricated and pre-terminated, designed to allow general yards to install the system without specialist electrical expertise. The modular design is intended to reduce installation costs, shorten commissioning time, and simplify long-term servicing.
The system integrates cooling, charging, propulsion, ventilation, pumps, and lighting into a single distributed platform. Operators access a unified user interface providing real-time visibility across all subsystems. Pascal Technologies owns the entire control stack, enabling diagnostics and troubleshooting down to component level.
Per Søndre Sødeland, CTO of Pascal Technologies, noted: “Small electric vessels can’t just inherit big-ship engineering. The loads, the operating profile, and the charging reality are different in kind. To get to real scale, we have to think from first principles: lightweight components, deep system integration, software as the backbone, and an architecture built to be produced in series, not as one-off projects.”
The Hyke F-15 Shuttle has a capacity of up to 50 passengers and features 196 kWh of installed battery capacity. The vessel supports 150 kW DC and 22 kW AC charging. According to the companies, the combined solution is designed for sustained daily operation and replication in other cities, utilising existing waterways to establish new transport links with lower capital requirements than land-based alternatives.
