Corvus Energy AS and BYD Energy Storage have signed a strategic cooperation agreement (SCA) to develop next-generation marine battery technology.

The deal builds on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in December 2025 and sets a framework for co-developing marine energy storage solutions based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology.

Under the SCA, Bergen-headquartered Corvus will combine its marine integration experience with BYD Energy Storage’s cell technology to develop low-cost, safe and reliable battery systems for demanding maritime environments.

The two parties will work on technological collaboration, resource sharing, and market expansion, with a focus on research and development, certification, and the large-scale deployment of high-rate LFP marine battery systems.

Fredrik Witte, chief executive officer of Corvus Energy, said: “This agreement accelerates our ability to deliver highly competitive LFP solutions at scale. By pairing Corvus’ deep maritime knowledge with BYD Energy Storage’s world-leading cell technology, we can reduce system cost significantly while maintaining the safety and performance standards this industry needs. No other marine battery supplier matches our safety record or our digital capabilities, which help customers maximise uptime, reduce maintenance, and improve return on investment.”

The SCA was signed during the CIBF exhibition in Shenzhen. Wang Hongbo, deputy principal of BYD Energy Storage's New Battery Product Line, and Geir Holberg, vice president of procurement at Corvus Energy, signed on behalf of their respective companies.

The ceremony was attended by Yin Xueqin, general manager of BYD Energy Storage and New Application Battery Division; Jiang Yufeng, director of the New Battery Product Line; and Lars Ole Valoen, chief technology officer of Corvus Energy.

Corvus Energy provides energy storage and fuel cell systems for maritime, offshore and port applications. Its portfolio includes modular lithium-ion battery systems and hydrogen-based proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells.

BYD Energy Storage was established in 2008 and works across utility-scale, commercial, industrial, residential and emerging energy storage applications. In the marine sector, the Chinese firm develops high-rate LFP battery solutions for electric vessels, industrial equipment and construction machinery.
