Partners in the Rotterdam–Singapore Green & Digital Shipping Corridor gathered in Singapore at the end of April for workshops focused on shipping decarbonisation and digitalisation, held during the 20th anniversary of Singapore Maritime Week.
The event comprised two parallel working groups — one focused on green initiatives and another on digital solutions — each bringing together more than 20 industry participants. Attendees included shipping liners, fuel suppliers, port authorities, solution providers and knowledge partners.
Participants discussed voluntary market mechanisms and book-and-claim concepts, as well as digital port clearance, just-in-time port calls and trusted data exchange.
The green working group examined sustainable fuel pathways including ammonia, methanol, ethanol and methane, exploring pilot and scaling opportunities. Discussions also covered financing challenges and conditions required for scaling sustainable fuels.
Participants explored potential collaborations on front-runner initiatives and actionable implementation pathways towards 2030.
The Port of Rotterdam noted that convergence emerged between the green and digital workstreams, with discussions demonstrating how operational data and digital infrastructure can enable more efficient operations and lower-emission shipping corridors.
"The working groups also reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between industry and public stakeholders to move from discussion and pilots towards scalable industry adoption and real operational impact," the Dutch port authority added.
The Rotterdam–Singapore Green & Digital Shipping Corridor is a partnership between the two port authorities aimed at developing sustainable and digital shipping routes between Europe and Asia.
